Over The Rainbow Shake

I just got home from a short road trip, and I had to stop for a milkshake along the way. While staying in Topeka, Kansas, I discovered a hip little restaurant called The Pennant. The vibe was great, with bright lights, arcade games, and even a small bowling alley! My boyfriend and I stopped for some appetizers, and, of course, a milkshake.
The Pennant has an array of milkshake flavors, but I went with the Over the Rainbow shake with chocolate ice cream (there was a choice between chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla). The shake was a traditional chocolate milkshake with a waffle cone stuck inside the cup, holding two more scoops of chocolate ice cream. The top was adorned with whipped cream, and there were sprinkles everywhere.
The first thing I noticed was that the shake was supposed to come with a cotton candy "cloud" on top, but ours did not. I'm unsure if they had run out or just forgot, but I was a bit bummed that it didn't have that final addition.
As for the taste, the chocolate shake was... weird. I'm not sure how to describe it fully, but there was a sort of chemical aftertaste that was subtle at first, but really lingered. I guessed maybe the restaurant had done a super deep clean since the Pandemic, but there was really no way of knowing. For $10, the flavor was disappointing. What the shake lacked in flavor, the additions really made up for. The waffle cone was fresh and not stale whatsoever. The whipped cream was even pretty good, and I am usually not a fan. The best part, however, was the sprinkles. Yes! I didn't know sprinkles could have an amazing flavor either! I always thought sprinkles existed for the sole purpose of making sweet treats look even better, but weren't meant to taste like anything. These sprinkles were sweet and delicious, and both my boyfriend and I scraped them off the side off the cup to have our fill.
Overall, the shake itself looked pretty, but it did not deliver in the flavor department. I'd be curious to try the other milkshakes on the menu to see how they stack up.
